Drug container located on NSW south coast NSW drug squad detectives have located a missing shipping container with drugs concealed inside as part of an ongoing investigation into a large-scale drug importation.
Officers attached to Strike Force Garner have been investigating a syndicate importing pseudoephedrine and other drugs concealed in shipping containers since December.
A police statement said the drugs were packed into rectangular metal boxes believed to be tea canisters which were then concealed within the internal structure of the shipping crates.
They said it appeared the syndicate somehow lost track of the containers, which were emptied of their legitimate cargo and sold as storage units to unsuspecting businesses and farms across the state, with the drugs still inside.
Earlier this month detectives appealed for information from the public in relation to one outstanding shipping container which they had tracked to the south coast.
About 3.30pm (AEDT) yesterday, police searched a container near Pambula, locating more than 11kg of pseudoephedrine concealed inside.
They said neither the container's owner, nor the company he had bought it from, were aware the drug was concealed inside.
Investigators had already seized about 540kg of pseudoephedrine from 53 containers in 22 locations across the state.
They estimated the amount of pseudoephedrine would be enough to make methylamphetamine, or "ice", with an estimated street value of about $150 million.
Officers also seized almost 75kg of ice valued at more than $40 million, and 15kg of heroin with a street value of more than $7.5 million.
Strike Force Garner was continuing its investigation and appealed for anyone with information that may assist the investigation to share it anonymously
